Crypt of Cthulhu No.25

  1. CRYPT OF CTHULHU No.25 - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It is the cover art for the fanzine booklet edited and published by Robert Price under his Cryptic Publications imprint. As with all the cover art that I did for Price's booklets, the artwork included all the lettering.

The lead story in this booklet, "Gateway to Forever," by Frank B. Long is a sequel to his earlier story, "The Hounds of Tindalos," that appears in a book by that same title, published by Arkham House in 1946. The dust jacket art for that book was drawn by Hannes Bok, so I used his style to make the cover of this booklet. It was my way of uniting the two publications.

Hannes Bok had a unique style that he used to create drawings and paintings for the world of fantasy and science fiction. His artwork added a special aura to every story he illustrated, he made every magazine and book that featured his artwork something special to own.

Centipede Press has published a huge collection of Bok's artwork, "A Life in Illustration," if you admire Bok's art it will be worth the cost to you to own it.
